A recent study by Home climate management company tado, has shown UK homes lose heat much faster than our European neighbours.
The study, which was carried out between December 2019 and January 2020 on over 80,000 UK homes, revealed a home with an indoor temperature of 20°C and an outside temperature of 0°C loses on average 3°C after five hours.
This result compared to homes in Germany and Sweden shows UK homes are losing heat three times faster.
According to the Renewable Energy Magazine, the UK has the oldest housing stock in comparison to other European countries with approximately 38 percent of homes dating to before 1946, with 24 percent in Germany and Sweden.
There are also differences in the amount of funding available to help support energy efficiency improvements. The Committee of Climate Change has said that homes account for 15 percent of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions and this needs to drastically reduce to meet the 2050 zero carbon target.
Less than 2 percent of UK homes have top energy efficiency ratings, so what can you do to improve this?
