A scheme to improve the energy efficiency of homes in Leeds has been recognised as one of the region’s finest at a prestigious awards ceremony.
The Holbeck Flex Scheme was named Large Scale Project of the Year at the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Energy Efficiency Awards, which aim to reward the work being done by the sector to reduce energy bills, tackle fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions across the region.
The Large Scale Project of the Year award recognises the efforts of all those involved locally in delivering a successful large scale energy saving project, while maintaining excellent customer service that demonstrates a high standard of quality workmanship throughout the project.
The Holbeck Flex Scheme - delivered under the Better Homes Yorkshire brand and funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority through the Local Growth Fund, is a partnership between ENGIE, E.ON Energy Solutions, and Leeds City Council – saw work carried out including re-roofing and roof insulation, replacement “A” graded UPVC double glazed windows, replacement Secured by Design Doors and external wall insulation to improve the energy efficiency of the properties, keeping them cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
Additional facelift work was also completed to give each property replacement gutters, repointing of brickwork, repainting external pipework, replacement drainage gullies and pipework where necessary, washing of brickwork and chimney improvements.
A total of 182 homes benefitted from the scheme and can now expect to have cheaper energy bills as well as a healthier home.
Steve Batty, Framework Director at Better Homes Yorkshire said: “This scheme has made a real difference to the lives of people whose homes have been improved through the works. It is hard to believe in today’s society that some people have to choose between heating their homes or eating, but by carrying out these works to the homes in Holbeck will reduce energy bills and in turn make it easier for families in these homes to be able to heat their homes in winter.
By working in partnership with Leeds City Council through the Better Homes Yorkshire Scheme, we have been able to pull together a various funding streams that provides an attractive funding solution for customers whether they’re a Social Tenant, a Private Landlord or a Home Owner to give everyone the opportunity of benefitting from the scheme and give the scheme a true area based feel to it, that doesn’t only benefit the residents who live within Holbeck but also revitalisers the homes to give the area a new fresh look.
