Help prevent condensation in your home

Back

April is notorious for its unpredictable weather, one minute its sunny, the next its raining.  Trying to get your washing dry without needing to switch on the heating can be a bit tricky.

If you’re drying clothes on a clothes horse or on the radiators, you do run the risk of increasing the chance of condensation and possible damp within the home.

To ensure your home remains condensation and damp-free, below are some tips to follow until you can safely start pegging your washing out in the garden!

  • Try to keep the inside temperature of your home consistent - sudden rises and drops in air temperature can make a condensation problem worse as water evaporates and condenses each time your central heating switches on and off
  • Ventilation is key, if you do have to dry clothes indoors, open a window or turn on an extractor fan
  • If you’re using a tumble-dryer make sure the room is also well ventilated
  • Cold spots on walls or ceilings increase the likelihood of condensation, so having these areas insulated can be a good solution
