Wakefield resident keeps warm this winter

Back

A Wakefield resident is now nice and warm this winter after receiving a free central heating system thanks to a partnership between Better Homes Yorkshire and Wakefield Council.

The partnership known as Better Homes Wakefield came to the aid of Mrs Boyle after her son made contact for help. Mrs Boyle who suffers from COPD, arthritis and a heart condition had been living with inadequate heating which forced her to stay in bed to keep warm.

Her home had no heating upstairs and she was unable to control her hot water which made her vulnerable to burns. Mrs Boyle’s son Bernie would often have to go around to her house to run her a bath to make sure she didn’t scald herself.

After visiting Mrs Boyle, it was clear that her home qualified for a fully-funded gas central heating system through Better Homes Wakefield.

Better Homes Yorkshire have a dedicated installation team through Scarbrook Heating & Plumbing Ltd. Bernie was very impressed with their service, “The team from Scarbrook were very clean and tidy, they did a sterling job.”

Commenting on the heating itself, Bernie said: “The whole scheme is absolutely wonderful, I am over the moon now my mum is warm, I worry a lot less now.”

Not only will the new central heating system keep her home warm, Mrs Boyle should also see her energy bills reduce as the system is much more energy efficient.

If you would like more information about whether you’re eligible for a free gas central heating, get in contact with the Better Homes Yorkshire team on 0800 597 1500.
