Better Homes Yorkshire Cookridge Case Study

Energy efficient improvements have been carried out to homes in Cookridge, Leeds.

External wall insulation (EWI) was fitted to a number of homes in order to reduce heat loss through the walls. The properties' external fixtures were then covered with a render in order to maintain the original features of the property and fit in with the rest of the street. One property owner was so happy with the work that she stated: "I'd certainly recommend getting this work done. The house is much warmer than it used to be and it looks so much better on the outside now."

EWI slows down the rate at which heat escapes through the walls of your home, helping to keep your property warmer and lowering your energy bills. The benefits were certainly noticed by this resident who said "These houses have always been known for being cold and the external insulation has made mine noticeably warmer. It's really made a difference in the kitchen, which is north-facing so doesn't warm up easily. The living room's south-facing so it's made less of a difference there but the heating does come on less. I switched energy supplier just before the work was done and I've been in credit with them all the way through winter, so I'm obviously using less gas than before and I think I'll be reducing my direct debit shortly."

EWI takes four weeks to install and provides your home with better weather-proofing and a renewed appearance. When asked about the work timetable, the resident said: "I didn't have any complaints about the work when it was being carried out. I'd see the workmen on a morning before I went to work and they'd just get on with it during the day. They only needed to get inside the house to extend the pipe to the toilet, and apart from that the whole thing was very unintrusive."

When asked about how she felt about the new look of the property, the resident responded by saying: "The work's really made the outside of the house so much neater. People have made comments about how much nicer it looks and some visitors have even thought they'd gone to the wrong house!"

The photos below show the work being carried out at a variety of different stages.
